The three Symphonies, Morning, Mid-Day, and Evening, are extraordinary in many ways. From early in Haydn’s career, they are ia hybrid form with solos for all the principal players in the orchestra, currying favor with them, as they were paid more for these solos! The pieces are highly sophisticated music that must have been a delightful shock to the court.
The depiction of a sunrise in the Morning Symphony is deeply symbolic: it was a new beginning for Haydn who had suffered years of poverty as freelancer, and a beginning of a new era of music, as the Classical era of musical composition can be said to begin with these Symphonies.
