Alicia Yang, 15, is a sophomore at BASIS Chandler. She has been playing viola for four years and is a student of Ms. Susanne Rothaar. In 2018, Alicia performed twice in Carnegie Hall as a result of her 2nd place awards in the American Protégé International Piano and Strings Competition as well as their Concerto Competition. Also in 2018, she won 1st Place in the Arizona Musicfest Young Musicians Solo Competition, repeating her 1st Place win from 2017. In 2017, Alicia won 1st Place in the Music Teachers National Association State Solo Competition, and moved on to win 3rd Place in their Southwest Division Solo Competition. The same year, she also won 1st Place in the Arizona Virtuoso Violas State Viola Competition, and 2nd Place in the Phoenix Youth Symphony Young Musicians Competition.
Alicia has won top prizes from the American String Teachers Association, Chandler Symphony, and Metropolitan Youth Symphony. In 2018, she served as Principal Viola of the Southwest High School All-Region Orchestra and as Associate Principal Viola in the Arizona High School All-State Orchestra.
This past summer she attended the Aspen Music Festival and School in Colorado where she studied with Ms. Victoria Chiang. In her spare time, Alicia enjoys reading and trying new food around Phoenix.

Jessica Zhang, age 15, is a 10th grader at Hamilton High. She has studied piano with teacher Fei Xu since the age of six. She was the 1st Place Winner in the 2016 Arizona Musicfest Young Musicians Piano Competition in Division I. In March, 2015, Jessica won national 2nd Place in the Music Teachers National Association Junior Piano Competition finals, along with the Chopin Prize from the National Chopin Foundation. Jessica has also won second place and the Audience Prize at the 2016 International Institute for Young Musicians International Piano Competition and third place at the 2016 Helen Taylor Johannesen International Piano Competition. Jessica was also the winner of the 2017 PYS Junior Division Piano Concerto Competition. She has been the 1st Place Winner of many local piano competitions as well: ‪2014 East Valley Music Teachers Competition, 2013 Arizona Young Artists Piano Competition, and 2013 Arizona Future Stars Piano Competition.
At age 11, Jessica made her orchestral debut with the MusicaNova Orchestra, performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 2.
