Our first Steinway Chamber Concert of 2014 features two wonderful young performers.
Bobae Johnson is a 14-year-old freshman at Desert Vista High School. She has been playing violin for six years and is currently studying with Dr. Jonathan Swartz at ASU. Bobae is co-concertmaster of the Phoenix Youth Symphony where she has been a member since 2011. She has won numerous awards, including first place in the 2012 Phoenix Youth Symphony Concerto Competition, grand prize and first place in the 2012 Four Seasons Orchestra Bach Competition, and first place in 2012 Arizona ASTA State Junior Solo Competition. This past summer she attended the Bowdoin International Music Festival in Maine and the Innsbrook Institute Summer Music Academy and Festival in Missouri. Bobae is a member of the newly founded Amazon Quartet, and has been a member of Melodic Minors, a volunteer musical organization which plays for various charitable events, for 3 years.
Kamal Maher, a senior at Arizona School for the Arts, is a classical guitarist who began playing at the age of 14. He currently studies privately with Mr. Brian Mancini. Kamal performs throughout the valley as part of the Advanced Guitar Ensemble at ASA. Audiences at the Musical Instrument Museum, Phoenix Chamber Music Society, and the Orpheum Theatre have been treated to his talents. Kamal also was honored to perform recently in a master class with the Grammy award-winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.
