Two principal players from the Phoenix Youth Symphony join MusicaNova for the second Young Artist Concert of the 2014-15 Season.

Bobby Nunes, Oboe

Bobby Nunes is a 16-year-old junior at Highland High School in Gilbert. He has been playing the oboe for four years, along with many other woodwind instruments. He is the principal oboist of the Phoenix Youth Symphony, where he has been a member since 2012; he currently studies under Martin Schuring at ASU. Bobby has won numerous awards, including first prize in the 2013 Arizona Musicfest’s Young Musicians Competition, scholarship winner of the 2012 Phoenix Youth Symphony Concerto Competition, top scorer in the state as principal oboist of the 2013 Arizona All-State Orchestra, and principal oboist of the American String Teachers Association National High School Honors Orchestra. In the summer of 2014 Bobby was a member of the World Youth Symphony Orchestra, the top orchestra at the world-famous Interlochen Arts Camp.

Brigit Fitzgerald, 17, is a senior at Horizon Honors High School in Ahwatukee. She has been playing the bassoon for seven years and currently studies with Dr. Albie Micklich at ASU. Brigit is the principal bassoonist of the Youth Symphony of the Southwest and the Phoenix Youth Symphony. She spent the summer of 2014 studying at the Interlochen Advanced Bassoon Institute and Idyllwild CA Summer Arts Camp. She has received many honors, including acceptance to the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-National Honor Orchestra (2013) and Honor Band (2014) as well as principal bassoonist of the Arizona All-State Band.
