|Violinist Allen Pan, a 14 year old freshman at Desert Vista High School in Ahwatukee, is making his first appearance in a MusicaNova Young Artists Series concert. He studies with noted violinist Joy Pan, who is conveniently his mother. This is his fifth year of playing the violin. He is currently a member of the Metropolitan Youth Symphony, Division I. As a freshman, he serves as the concertmaster for Desert Vista High School Symphony Orchestra.|
Allen comes from a family of violinists, including his brother Ivan, 12, mother and teacher Joy Pan, and father Lan Qiu, a member of the Phoenix Symphony. Joy and Lan have made several appearances with with the MusicaNova Orchestra as duo violinists. The family was recently featured in an article in the Ahwatukee Foothills News.
Not only does Allen play with his school orchestra and MYS, but also often plays for his church, fundraisers for school, and numerous community services. He enjoys playing with his string quartet and especially loves playing contemporary music on the electric violin. Allen loves to write, draw, and play basketball.
Alex Tam, Piano

|Alex Tam, 15, is a sophomore at Phoenix Country Day School. Music has always been an important part of his life. He began playing the piano at the age of 6 under Mrs. Pam Allman and currently studies with Mrs. Snezana Krstic. Alex also plays the violin for PCDS string ensemble and toured extensively with the Phoenix Boys Choir. He has performed piano solos at the Honor Recital at Colorado Suzuki Piano Institute and PCDS Middle School commencement. Most recently, he was awarded Bronze prize at the 2017 Dorothy Vanek Youth Concerto Competition, presented by the Southern Arizona Symphony Orchestra. He also received 2nd place in the 2014 and 2015 Elder Piano Competition, Honorable Mention at the 2016 James R. Anthony Honors Recital, and semifinalist in this year’s Classics Alive Young Artists piano competition.|
Besides playing the piano, Alex loves writing and was the 2015 1st Prize winner of the Martin Luther King essay contest. He also loves tennis and plays for his high school varsity tennis team. In his free time, he is passionate about volunteering and he is the class president of the Boys Team Charity- Cactus League. Alex is also an avid traveler and has visited 23 different countries.
